Lake Toxaway’s modern rebirth began in 1960, when Reginald D. Heinitsh Sr. and a group of investors restored one of Western North Carolina’s most historic resort communities. They rebuilt the dam, restored Lake Toxaway, and began developing the homesites that would become Lake Toxaway Estates.
In 1963, Mr. Heinitsh established Lake Toxaway Country Club and built its original 18-hole golf course, laying the foundation for the community and lifestyle that continue today.
In 1985, Reg Heinitsh Jr. purchased the majority interest in Lake Toxaway Company from his father and acquired ownership of Lake Toxaway Country Club. Over the next four decades, his leadership brought continued growth, investment, and transformation to both organizations.
Lake Toxaway Company evolved from developing and selling property within Lake Toxaway Estates to becoming a leading luxury real estate brokerage with generations of knowledge and deep roots in the community.
During this same period, Lake Toxaway Country Club was transformed through extensive investment in its golf course, clubhouse, pool, racquet facilities, fitness center, learning center, and other amenities—helping establish it as one of the Southeast’s premier private mountain clubs.
The restoration of the lake was more than an engineering effort. It was the return of a dream.
What began with Reginald D. Heinitsh Sr.’s vision was carried forward and expanded by Reg Heinitsh Jr. Today, the third generation, Reg III and Will Heinitsh, have joined the company’s leadership, continuing that legacy with a shared commitment to stewardship, progress, and the future of Lake Toxaway.
More than six decades after Lake Toxaway’s restoration, the mission remains the same: to preserve what makes this community special while continually enhancing it for generations to come.
