The History That Dreams Are Made Of

Lake Toxaway has a colorful and storied history that began in the late 1800s, with plans for a summer retreat that would draw many of America’s most rich and famous families. That dream was indeed realized, but then slowly faded away after a massive rainstorm caused the dam to fail in 1916. Then in the 1960s, the dam was rebuilt, a country club was established, and homes began to spring up throughout the estates as the property became more and more popular. Today, Lake Toxaway Estates is widely recognized as a premier mountain community in Western North Carolina. It has become a treasured retreat – a great place to live, or vacation, or just visit. Our idyllic mountain-lake setting, VIP amenities, and authentic community spirit truly set it apart.

Community amenities include a playground and soccer field, 40 acres of open space known as The Meadow, and The Pavilion, an open-air arena where monthly music events are held during the summer season.
